Trial de novo

A new trial in which the entire case is heard again as if no previous trial had occurred, without deference to the prior proceedings. This type of trial is sometimes granted on appeal from a lower court, such as a small claims court or administrative tribunal. All evidence and testimony are presented anew to the court.
