Standard of review

The degree of deference an appellate court gives to the decisions of a lower court or administrative agency when reviewing a case. Different standards apply depending on the type of legal issue being reviewed, such as questions of law, questions of fact, or mixed questions of law and fact. Common standards include de novo review, clear error, and abuse of discretion.
