A vote indicating opposition or disagreement with a motion or proposal in a legislative body or other deliberative assembly. Members cast a 'nay' vote to express their disapproval, contrasting with an 'aye' vote which signifies approval. The number of 'nay' votes is recorded to determine whether a measure passes or fails.
