Yeas and nays

A method of voting in a legislative body where members verbally state "yea" for approval or "nay" for disapproval as their names are called. This procedure creates a public record of each legislator's vote on a particular measure. The United States Constitution requires a roll call vote of yeas and nays upon the demand of one-fifth of the members present in either the House of Representatives or the Senate.
