Operation of law

The manner in which rights, duties, or liabilities are created, extinguished, or transferred automatically by the application of legal principles, without any act or agreement by the parties involved. This occurs independently of any express intention or action. For example, property ownership may pass to heirs by operation of law upon the death of the owner.
