Outlaw

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003586

A person who has been declared outside the protection of the law, historically a severe form of punishment for fugitives from justice. In this state, the individual could be harmed with impunity and was stripped of all legal rights and property. While the formal legal status of outlawry is obsolete in most modern legal systems, the term persists to describe a person who lives outside the law's constraints or is a habitual criminal.
