Peculation

The fraudulent appropriation of money or property entrusted to one's care, particularly public funds by a public official. This form of embezzlement involves the illegal taking of assets that the individual was authorized to manage but not to convert for personal use. Peculation is a criminal offense, and a conviction can result in imprisonment, fines, and a requirement to make restitution for the stolen funds.
