Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003689
A person of equal standing, rank or ability to another, such as a fellow member of a profession or a fellow citizen. The idea of a jury of one's peers traces to Magna Carta, and in the United States the Sixth Amendment guarantees an impartial jury drawn from a fair cross-section of the community, not from people of the defendant's own social class.
