Racketeering

The act of engaging in a pattern of illegal activities carried out as part of an ongoing criminal enterprise. These underlying crimes, known as predicate acts, include offenses such as bribery, extortion, money laundering, and murder. Federal prosecution of such conduct is primarily governed by the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, which requires at least two predicate acts within a ten-year period to establish a pattern.
