Raider

An investor or company that attempts a hostile takeover of a public corporation. The raider seeks to acquire a controlling interest in the target company by purchasing a substantial block of its shares on the open market or through a tender offer directly to shareholders, bypassing the target's board of directors. This action is considered hostile because it is undertaken without the consent or cooperation of the target company's current management.
