Retroactive

Describing a law, decision, or action that applies to events or facts that occurred before its enactment or pronouncement. Retroactive laws are generally disfavored in legal systems, particularly in criminal law, due to concerns about fairness and due process. The U.S. Constitution prohibits ex post facto laws, which are a type of retroactive criminal law.
