Post mortem

An examination of a body after death, also known as an autopsy, conducted to determine the cause, manner, and time of death. In a legal context, a forensic post mortem is performed by a medical examiner or coroner to gather evidence for criminal investigations or to resolve questions in civil litigation, such as insurance claims. The findings, including toxicological reports and observations of injury, are documented in a formal report that can be used as evidence in court.
