Cause of death

The medical reason or injury that directly results in a person's demise. This determination is made by a medical examiner or coroner and is recorded on a death certificate. It is distinct from the manner of death, which describes the circumstances surrounding the death, such as natural, accidental, suicidal, or homicidal.
