Cause of action

  1. A set of facts sufficient to justify a right to sue to obtain money, property, or the enforcement of a right against another party. It comprises the legal theory and factual basis upon which a plaintiff brings a lawsuit. For instance, a breach of contract is a common cause of action.

  2. The legal basis that allows for a party to seek judicial relief.
