Postal power

The authority granted to the United States Congress by the Constitution to establish post offices and post roads. This power, found in Article I, Section 8, Clause 7, forms the basis for the creation of the U.S. Postal Service and federal laws governing the mail. The authority has been interpreted broadly to include the power to prevent the use of the mail for criminal purposes, such as fraud or the distribution of illegal materials.
