Royalty

A payment made to the owner of an asset for the right to use that asset. In intellectual property law, royalties are paid to creators like authors or musicians for each copy of a work sold or for each public performance. In natural resources law, they are payments made to a mineral rights owner based on the gross or net production of minerals from the property.
