Self determination (international law)

The right of a people to freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social, and cultural development. This principle is enshrined in international human rights law and is a foundational concept in decolonization. It is recognized in Article 1 of the Charter of the United Nations and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
