Lex mitior

A legal principle, primarily in international criminal law, stating that if the law applicable to an offense changes between the time of the offense and the time of judgment, the lighter penalty or more favorable law should be applied. This principle is enshrined in Article 15(1) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
