Lex loci

The law of the place, referring to the law of the jurisdiction where a particular event occurred or where a contract was made. This principle is used in conflict of laws to determine which jurisdiction's substantive law should apply to a case. For instance, in a tort case, the lex loci delicti (law of the place of the wrong) often governs.
