Self executing treaty

An international agreement that automatically becomes domestic law upon ratification, without the need for additional legislative action by the national government. Such a treaty creates rights and obligations directly enforceable in national courts. The U.S. Supreme Court has established criteria for determining whether a treaty is self-executing, often looking at the intent of the signatories and the specificity of its provisions.
