Separation agreement

A legally binding contract created by a married couple to settle matters related to their separation. The agreement details the rights and responsibilities of each party regarding child custody, child support, spousal support (alimony), and the division of property and debts. While it does not legally end the marriage, courts will incorporate the terms of a valid separation agreement into the final divorce decree.
