Stay of proceedings
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-004693
A court order that temporarily or permanently halts a legal proceeding or the actions of a party. A temporary stay pauses litigation, often pending the outcome of a related case, an appeal, or a settlement negotiation. A permanent stay, which is a much rarer remedy, completely terminates the case, effectively acting as a dismissal.
