Treasury stock
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-004974
Shares of a company's own stock that were issued and later reacquired by the company, whether bought on the open market or in a private repurchase, and held instead of being retired. They remain issued but are not outstanding, so they carry no votes and receive no dividends. Companies hold them to reissue for employee stock plans or acquisitions, and they appear as a deduction from stockholders' equity.
