The state of being impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other substances to an extent that one's mental or physical faculties are substantially diminished. This condition affects a person's ability to operate a vehicle safely or perform other tasks requiring sound judgment. Legal limits for blood alcohol content, such as 0.08% in many jurisdictions, define this state for driving offenses.
