Uniform Simultaneous Death Act
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005064
A model law adopted by many U.S. states that provides rules for the distribution of property when two or more people die at or near the same time and it is impossible to determine who died first. The Act generally presumes that each person predeceased the other for purposes of inheritance. This prevents property from passing through multiple estates unnecessarily.
