Welfare work rules

Regulations that require recipients of certain government assistance programs to engage in work-related activities as a condition of receiving benefits. These rules often mandate job searching, vocational training, or direct employment for a specified number of hours per week. The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996 significantly expanded work requirements for welfare recipients in the United States.
