Active permafrost

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003277

Permafrost that is currently undergoing degradation, characterized by a deepening of the active layer or an increase in ground temperature. This state indicates a response to changes in climate or surface conditions, leading to thawing of previously frozen ground. Monitoring active permafrost involves measuring ground temperatures and the thickness of the active layer over time.
