Airborne fraction

The proportion of total carbon dioxide emissions from human activities that remains in the atmosphere, rather than being absorbed by oceans or terrestrial ecosystems. This fraction indicates the efficiency of natural carbon sinks in removing anthropogenic CO2. Over recent decades, the airborne fraction has remained relatively constant, around 45% to 50%.
