Mole fraction

The ratio of the number of moles of a particular component in a mixture to the total number of moles of all components in that mixture. This dimensionless quantity is used to express the concentration of atmospheric gases, such as water vapor or carbon dioxide. The sum of mole fractions for all components in a mixture is always equal to one.
