Partial pressure
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007807
The pressure exerted by a single component gas within a mixture of gases, as if that gas alone occupied the entire volume. This concept is derived from Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures, which states that the total pressure of a gas mixture equals the sum of the partial pressures of its constituent gases. In meteorology, it is often applied to atmospheric gases like oxygen, nitrogen, and water vapor.
