Saturation vapor pressure

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002402

  1. The maximum partial pressure that water vapor can exert in a mixture of gases, such as the atmosphere, at a given temperature. When the actual vapor pressure equals this value, the air is saturated, and any further addition of water vapor or decrease in temperature will lead to condensation. This pressure increases exponentially with temperature.

  2. The vapor pressure of a system, at a given temperature, wherein the vapor of a substance is in equilibrium with a plane surface of that substance's pure liquid or solid phase.
