Airborne expendable bathythermograph

A device deployed from an aircraft to measure ocean temperature as a function of depth. It consists of a probe that falls through the water, transmitting temperature data back to the aircraft via a fine wire. The probe is designed to be used once and then discarded, providing a rapid vertical profile of ocean thermal structure.
