Bathythermograph slide
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003859
A smoked glass slide used in older mechanical bathythermographs to record temperature and depth data. As the instrument descends, a stylus scratches a trace onto the smoked surface, creating a permanent record of the ocean's thermal profile. These slides are then analyzed to extract temperature-depth information.
