Expendable bathythermograph
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005506
A device used to measure ocean temperature as a function of depth from a moving or stationary ship. It consists of a probe that is dropped into the water, transmitting temperature data back to the ship via a thin wire until the wire breaks. These instruments provide rapid, high-resolution temperature profiles down to depths of several hundred meters.
