Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003404

A standardized format for reporting in-flight weather observations from an aircraft to a ground station, either by voice or data link. An AIREP, or aircraft report, contains information on position, time, flight level, air temperature, wind, and other observed phenomena like turbulence or icing. These reports are coded according to World Meteorological Organization standards and are a source of upper-air data, especially over oceanic and data-sparse regions.
