Air-earth current

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010358

The net flow of electric charge between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere, encompassing both conduction and convection currents. This current is a component of the global atmospheric electric circuit, which is maintained by thunderstorm activity. In fair weather, it is predominantly a downward conduction current, while lightning and precipitation contribute to upward currents.
