Conduction current
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004586
The flow of electric charge through a medium due to the movement of free electrons or ions under the influence of an electric field. In the atmosphere, this current is primarily driven by the movement of ions, contributing to the fair-weather electric field. It is a component of the global atmospheric electric circuit, typically flowing downwards towards the Earth's surface.
