Ohmic current

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007677

An electrical current that flows through a medium in direct proportion to the electric field, following Ohm's law. In atmospheric science, this concept applies to the flow of charge through the weakly ionized air between the ionosphere and the Earth's surface as part of the global electric circuit. The conductivity of the air, which is the inverse of its resistivity, determines the magnitude of the current for a given atmospheric potential gradient.
