Air-earth conduction current
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010357
The continuous flow of electric charge between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere, driven by the global atmospheric electric field. This current is primarily carried by ions and is directed downwards in fair weather regions. Its magnitude is typically on the order of picoamperes per square meter, contributing to the global electric circuit.
