Alfvén wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003429
A type of magnetohydrodynamic wave that propagates along magnetic field lines in a conducting fluid, such as a plasma. These waves involve oscillations of both the magnetic field and the fluid velocity, with the restoring force provided by magnetic tension. They are observed in the Earth's magnetosphere and the solar wind, traveling at the Alfvén speed.
