Altimetry
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003465
The science and technology of measuring altitude or elevation. In meteorology and aviation, it primarily involves using pressure altimeters that infer height from atmospheric pressure. Satellite altimetry, however, uses radar pulses to measure the height of the Earth's surface, including oceans and ice sheets, relative to a reference ellipsoid.
