Altimeter-setting indicator

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003464

A precision aneroid barometer calibrated to display the local altimeter setting directly, rather than the station pressure. It automatically computes the sea-level corrected pressure based on the station's elevation, providing the value needed by pilots to calibrate their aircraft altimeters. This instrument is a standard component of an airport's Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) or Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS).
