Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010371

The scientific field concerned with the measurement of wind speed and direction. It encompasses the development, calibration, and application of instruments called anemometers and wind vanes, as well as the analysis and interpretation of the data they collect. Techniques range from mechanical methods, like rotating cups, to remote sensing technologies such as Doppler lidar, which can profile wind over large volumes of the atmosphere.
