Annual maximum series

A statistical series composed of the single largest value of a particular meteorological or hydrological variable observed within each year of a record. This approach is commonly applied to extreme events such as maximum daily rainfall, highest wind speed, or peak river flow. It is a primary input for extreme value analysis to estimate return periods.
