Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003594
A heterogeneous body of permeable and less permeable geologic materials that functions as a single water-yielding unit on a regional scale. It consists of one or more aquifers that are hydraulically connected, potentially separated by aquitards or aquicludes that still permit some water movement between them. The High Plains Aquifer system in the central United States is a well-known example, comprising multiple interconnected geologic formations.
