Automatic picture transmission
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003724
A system for broadcasting analog image data from weather satellites, allowing for direct reception by relatively simple ground stations. The Automatic Picture Transmission (APT) signal is a continuously transmitted, amplitude-modulated subcarrier that produces a visible-light or infrared image line by line. This system was widely used on NOAA polar-orbiting satellites, transmitting on frequencies near 137 MHz.
