Picture element

The smallest individual unit of a digital image, representing a single point in a raster graphic. Each picture element, or pixel, contains color and intensity information that contributes to the overall image. In meteorology, satellite and radar images are composed of pixels, with each pixel corresponding to a specific geographic area and representing a measured atmospheric variable like cloud top temperature or precipitation intensity.
