Barometric rate
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003820
The speed and direction of change in atmospheric pressure over a specific period. This rate indicates whether pressure is rising, falling, or remaining steady, and how quickly these changes are occurring. A rapid fall in barometric pressure often precedes the arrival of a low-pressure system and associated inclement weather.
