Beating

The process of sailing a vessel against the wind by tacking, which involves sailing at an angle into the wind and then changing direction to sail at a similar angle on the other side. This maneuver allows a sailboat to make progress upwind. It is a fundamental technique in sailing, especially in adverse wind conditions.
