Upwind

The direction against the prevailing wind, or the direction from which the wind is blowing. If a weather phenomenon is located upwind of an observer, it means the wind is carrying air from that phenomenon towards the observer. For instance, a plume of smoke from a factory would drift downwind from its upwind source.
